...Recently, my life has changed a lot—new acquaintances, moving to a big city, career development. My progress in learning is enormous; I feel that I am changing and becoming more confident with each new day. Recently, I got a new position - COO in the Ukrainian-Japanese start-up Maky Ua. (If you haven't heard about it yet, I'll leave you a link Maky). The platform's development is already in the final stage, and I am trying to prepare to fulfill my duties as best as possible.
So at the moment, I will manage the legal and accounting department, which means that I will become a leader for the people who will work with me. This is a big responsibility because these people depend on me and my decisions. So I started looking for answers for myself. Who am I? What leadership qualities do I need to develop in myself?
I realized I didn't need to look for something new. I need to look deeper into myself and understand who I am, what kind of person I am.
A short course on LinkedIn, “Finding your Leadership Purpose with Doug Conant,” led me to this idea. He says, "Your life story is your leadership story." These words struck me; I had never thought about it this way. The author of the course offers to find your potential by honestly answering three questions: Why do you choose to lead? , What is your promise? , What are your values? I confess frankly that I quickly found the answers to these questions, and now I want to share my thoughts with you.
Why did I choose to lead? Because I want to help, others realize themselves. It is too bold to say this young because I first need to build my career. Still, I know from my experience that you can achieve significant success with the support of a strong leader who believes in you and creates favorable conditions for self-realization.
What can I promise people?
- I am strict but, at the same time, a good person. They will know I demand a straightforward job from them, but I do it with love.😄
- I always remember people's good deeds towards me and know how to be grateful.
- I am loyal to my people to the end, and as long as my employees work honestly and openly with me, they can always count on my loyalty to them.
- I am a bit stubborn and, of course, like all people, I have my opinion on many issues, but I am always open to new suggestions. It's hard to say that I like criticism, but above all, I value honesty, so my team can always not be afraid to point out possible mistakes on my part.
- Most of all, I value the desire to develop, so I am not looking for people who know everything (because it is impossible). I am more than happy to hire someone eager to learn.
- I also cannot tolerate various emotional games, gossip, unhealthy competition, envy, and lies. I believe a team in which such an atmosphere prevails is doomed to failure, so any person who leads my calm and balanced team into various conflicts will quickly fly out of work.
- Good salary for your work. It is challenging to perform one's duties well while considering the impossibility of paying rent or buying food.
- Respect for everyone's personality. While working at most of my jobs in the past, I often felt disrespect to myself. It's a terrible feeling, and I will never allow my employees to think like that.
- Clear implementation of the plan. It must be done and applies to both parties if we agree on something.
- Good mood. Despite my strictness, I consider myself a positive person. I often joke, smile, love people, and make them happy.
So summing up everything that has been said, you can understand that people should not expect super creativity, constant new ideas, and enthusiasm from me. I can suggest to people a clear understanding of their work direction, a feeling of confidence, and continuous development.
From all of the above, you can highlight my central values.
- Loyalty
- Reliability
- Respect for everyone
- Self-development
- Good atmosphere
- Confidence
- Calm down.
- Openness to suggestions
Of course, I know it is impossible to constantly organize the team's work in a calm rhythm without any stress. Life is unpredictable, but I want my people to realize that every problem has a solution. We should continue respecting each other, listening, calmly discussing issues, and moving forward, achieving excellent results.
"Work at leadership in a way that's true to who you are." If this phrase guides you, then I am a person who knows how to respect others, appreciate goodness, be faithful and honest, learn how to support others, and constantly strive for self-improvement. If you think you can grow, you probably will. I am sure that I can become a strong personality in the future who will be able to lead others.
